A BIG day from the WR from FIU meant some records were shatteredâŠ
To get over 100 yards receiving in a game is a big deal, that means you had a heck of a game. Well when it comes to Eric Rivers, the redshirt junior WR at FIU, he had a heck of a game x100000.
Rivers went off for an FIU record 295 yards receiving on 11 catches, 3 of which went for a touchdown. Thatâs insanity! That trails only Arizona's Tetaiora McMillan who had 304 yards against New Mexico for most yard totals in major college football this year.
Whatâs even cooler about all this? Rivers was a WALK-ON at the University of Memphis for two years before transferring to FIU. Not only was he a walk-on, but Memphis had him playing cornerback, not wide receiver.
Knowing his playing time would be limited he left Memphis and walked onto the FIU roster. He balled out in the spring season and then earned a scholarship, before even stepping onto the field for FIU in a real game. Part of why Rivers moved to Miami and FIU was to spend more time with his son, who lives with his ex-girlfriend in the area. After last night, Iâm sure Eric is a happy dad.
Rivers was a key contributor to the FIU WR room last year, but he only totaled 370 yards and three touchdowns. Rivers dang near matched that last night. Heading into last nightâs game Rivers had already totaled 32 catches, 581 yards, and 5 touchdowns on the season. He added some serious numbers to those totals last night.
Eric Rivers: remember the name!
