Wow, wow, wow. Talk about a fun one! But I’ll tell you what: the baseball world got to see one of the best in baseball hit one of the biggest homers of the season.

I’m going to keep this one short and sweet tonight. The game of baseball really works in mysterious ways. When Shohei Ohtani stepped to the plate in the 10th inning, the whole world thought that it was his time to shine. Nope. Wrong.

Two batters later, it was Freddie Freeman’s time to shine. The former NL MVP and one of the greatest hitters of the generation has been battling a serious ankle injury that has limited his ability to run the bases, play the field, and just be an all-around ball player.

Freeman is one of, if not the nicest, players in the league. He’s just a blast to watch play the game. He loves being out there, is an unreal teammate, and just one of the guys you love to see succeed. All that accounted for, he’s also an unbelievable player.

Freddie not only battled the ankle injury this year, but a serious illness of his youngest child. The Freeman family has had one crazy year, but I’m sure all those challenges were worth the feeling Freddie and his family had as he was rounding the bases after hitting a walk-off grand slam to send the Dodgers home victorious in game one of the World Series.

For a guy who sometimes is forgotten about on this roster full of former MVPs and huge names, Freeman is Mr. Consistent. A season full of challenges was met with the challenge of the game on the line for Freddie, and he once again answered the gosh darn bell.
