What to know: If you’ve been able to follow the New York Yankees even in the SLIGHTEST during Aaron Boone’s seven year stint as manager, you’ll know that the general consensus of Boone has fluctuated significantly. Granted, Yankees fans may be the most demanding of all sports fans, and are pretty upset at anything but a championship rings, something that Boone’s predecessors have all managed to grasp.
Boone struck a two year extension with the Yanks, locking him in through the end of the 2027 season. There has been rumblings of this deal getting done as Spring Training started to roll around, and now the pen to paper is finally there to prove it.
Since Boone took over in 2018, the Yankees have won at least 90 games in all but one of his seasons. In almost every metric the Yankees have been highly successful under Boone, they win a bunch and they make relatively deep playoff runs. they’ve done everything but win the big one, enough for Yankee fans to get ready to run him out of town.
Things hit an all-time low in 2023 when the Yankees finished the season in fourth place in the AL East and had the worst full season since 1992. Boone needed a massive season in 2024 to be on the right side of Yankees nation, and he did just that.
The Yankees finished last season with 94 wins and made it all the way to the World Series, where they met an absolute juggernaut named the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Yankees have made the playoffs in all but one season under Boone, and look poised to make a run again this year in the post-Juan Soto era.
No matter how you feel about Boone, he’ll likely be the manager for the Yankees for the next three years. Can he finally get the monkey off of his back and bring home another ring for New York?
