What to know: It was a BIG EAST showdown last night between (12) St. John’s and (19) UConn. It was a tale of two halves!

Rick Pitino’s St. John’s squad has officially arrived! With the staple of a suffocating defense, they absolutely will be a team to beat in March. The first 8 minutes of yesterdays game in Storrs, CT, you would have thought that the roof would blow off the place. Sophomores Solo Ball and Jaylin Stewart could not miss, and the Huskies got out to a MASSIVE 14-point lead.

Pitino called a timeout, and whatever he said needs to be the timeout convo said in every huddle because the Red Storm came out different. They were guarding the length of the court, and they made every single the Huskies did tough. For the last 30 minutes of the game, nothing was easy for the Huskies. This stellar defense did not help with the Huskies having a serious turnover problem as of late.

Sown the stretch, this was a GRITTY Big East throwdown! Good defense, tough buckets, and coming down to the last 60 seconds. St. John’s came away with their 10th straight win, by a score of 68-62, and they stay atop the list of the Big East standings.

UConn freshman star Liam McNeeley was back and, despite an off-shooting night, ended with 18 and 11. Despite the loss, the Huskies will be ok! The Big East is a gauntlet, and although they got outplayed in the second half yesterday, they will be ok.
