[4/10/24] Glass Half Full…Of Strikeouts!⚾️

LA Dodgers Pitcher Tyler Glasnow

Do we still have March Madness hangover? Yes, yes we do. Is the Masters just 48 hours away? It absolutely is. Are the NBA Playoffs in less than 10 days? As a matter of fact, they are. All this being said, are we going to talk some Baseball today for our Stump Story? You’re damn right we are!

Let’s take a trip to Minnesota where the Twins hosted the LA Dodgers. Obviously we’re going to talk about Shohei Ohtani aren’t we? Ok sorry, that’s the last one of those questions. But no we are not. We are here to talk about the absolute clinic that Dodgers ace Tyler Glasnow put on.

In route to his third win of the young season, Glasnow pitched 7 scoreless innings. He allowed 3 hits and struck out an obnoxious 14 batters. Tough night at the office for the Twins lineup, who almost all caught a piece of the action.

8 of the 9 in the lineup struck out tonight, including (RF) Matt Wallner who struck out 3 times. With this performance, Glasnow tied his career high in strikeouts. With all the offseason talk of the Dodgers revolving around the acquisitions of Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, it could potentially be Glasnow who was the major key to getting the Dodgers back to the promise land.

On the other side Louie Varland pitched 5 innings for the Twins and gave up 7 hits and 6 runs. Sorry Louie you didn’t deserve that.

Tyler Glasnow has just become an early STUMP FAVORITE in the way too-early race for Cy Young.

This got us thinking a little, the all-time record for strikeouts in a game is 21, which was done by Tom Cheney in 1962 when he pitched 16 innings! You read that right 16! It was a different sport in 1962. After that, we’ve got a bunch of 20s and 19s highlighted by multiple Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens appearances. These were all done in complete games, although less strikeouts, Glasnow pitched only 7 innings.

Glasnow is a walking heat-seeking missile towards the strike zone and if he keeps this up he could absolutely be the winner of this year’s Cy Young award. You heard it here first on this very Stump Story!

Hopefully your team on the diamond has gotten off to a hot start! And if they haven’t………It’s a long season!
